Orchid, the male cancer charity has teamed up with London College of Fashion and Raging Bull to create a t-shirt which will be launched to mark the Orchid’s Male Cancer Awareness Week (11-17 April 2011).
Students from all three years on the BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration course at London College of Fashion (LCF) were briefed to design an iconic t-shirt to raise awareness of the three male specific cancers - penile, prostate and testicular – by using a creative platform to engage and inform people of all ages.
The winning design by second year student Elise Pellican was selected by a fashion and celebrity panel* including pop artist Peter Andre, BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Flavia Cacace, Harold Tillman CBE, Chairman of the British Fashion Council and owner of Jaegar and Aquascutum, Dylan Jones, Editor of GQ Magazine and Gordon Richardson, Design Director at Topman.
Working in partnership with clothing brand Raging Bull – fronted by ex-England rugby player, Phil Vickery - T-shirts will be sold in the top ten House of Fraser stores across the UK and online at www.houseoffraser.co.uk andwww.orchid-cancer.org.uk. Priced at £25.00 each, the full profits from each T-shirt will be donated to Orchid.
Rebecca Porta, Chief Executive of Orchid, says: “Every year over 37,000 men are diagnosed with a male cancer. Raising awareness is vital and we are thrilled to be partnering with London College of Fashion and Raging Bull to produce this creatively powerful T-shirt that we believe will reach new audiences, encouraging greater awareness of male-specific cancer and raise funds for the charity.”

ABOUT ORCHID
Orchid is the UK’s only registered charity focused exclusively on male-specific cancers. Formed in 1996 by a testicular cancer patient, Orchid exists to save men’s lives from testicular, prostate, and penile cancers through pioneering research, the provision of specialist information and support, campaigns and raising awareness.
ORCHID MALE CANCER AWARENESS WEEK (11-17 APRIL 2011)
This year, the male cancer charity Orchid, is calling on women to lead the fight against male cancer during its annual Awareness Week (11th-17th April 2011).
The ‘HIS HEALTH IN YOUR HANDS’ campaign is aimed at getting women to be proactive in encouraging their man to be aware of the signs and symptoms of the three male specific cancers - testicular, penile and prostate – so they can seek advice as early as possible.
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer and kills 1 man an hour in the UK equating to 10,000 men p.a. Affecting men mainly over the age of 65, in nearly ½ of cases the disease will have spread before diagnosis making it far harder to treat.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer amongst young men aged 15-45 and affects 2,000 men p.a. If caught early enough it has a cure rate of over 95% and yet in over 1/3 cases the disease will have spread before diagnosis.
Penile cancer, though mercifully rarer – less than 400 cases p.a., also affects men mainly over the age of 60 although there are younger cases. Sadly 1 in 4 men with penile cancer will not survive.
