An Interview With Vernoica Moncho Lobo

It is one of those moments in my life when I love and adore the things I do.

I came across Veronica Moncho Lobo AW 11 designs pieces on my first ever visit to Forward Pr office. And since then I have had the pleasure of meeting Veronica Moncho Lobo a couple of times at fashion events, and I have to say she is a cool and put together young lady.

This interview is a must read and a delight.

Tell me about yourself and how it all started with the Veronica Moncho Lobo label. By the way I adore your clothes I have to say.

I was born in Argentina and lived for the first 15 years in my hometown, Salta. I left home to finish my secondary studies in the United Sates, in a boarding school in Connecticut, Miss Porter’s School, where I perfectedmy English and started to specialise in Fine Arts. After graduation I moved to New York, and specialized in fashion design at the University of Parsons School of Design. After stints at both Donna Karan and Catherine Malandrino, I moved to Milan where I worked for a startup menswear label and then as part of the creative team for accessories label, Zagliani.
In 2007 I moved to London, both for a change and to explore fashion. After a few months working with a local designer I decided I was ready to launch my own line together with my brother. Since 2008 our company has been growing and we now sell in selected boutiques across the globe. In March 2011 we launched our first flagship store in London’sBelgravia on Elizabeth Street and we are now ready to introduce our firstfragrance, which will be launched on the 16th of September during London Fashion Week.

Fashion has so many ambiguous meaning, so therefore, what would you say fashion means to you personally?

Fashion, as an art form, is what I’m most passionate about. I love the beginning of every design season when I start with the fabric research. I can spend hours and hours selecting fabrics, colours, prints, and embellishments. While I do that I also start to create the colour palettes in my head, the first ideas become more and more clear and I can’t wait to go home and start sketching. Fashion to me is a way of expressing myself.

what inspires you to design your collection each season?

Inspiration comes from a variety of things. It comes from trips abroad, from architecture, a fusion of western-eastern cultures; I have always been strongly influenced by Asia. But what inspires me most are theactual fabrics and the colours; colour is my candy. Once I know the material I’m working with I am overflooded with ideas and start playing with shapes and fabric combinations.
Veronica Moncho Lobo A/W11

What would you say is your trademark piece and how would you describe it?

Definitely the off the shoulder look is one of my signature pieces; you will always find it in every collection. It is one of my classic looks that I elaborate and change every season. It was born in my very first capsule collection and is where I started to design the rest of the collection. It is a very feminine look and has an Asian twist. I have versions in short cocktail dresses and the long ones. In the A/W collection I am playing with this asymmetry on half skirts and jackets.
Veronica Moncho Lobo AW 11

Who would you say the Veronica Moncho Lobo woman is?

The Verónica Moncho Lobo woman is independent, confident, and very feminine. She is not afraid of expressing herself through choices of colour and understands how at every point in time she is expressing a newseason while capturing its element of timelessness.

How do you select your muse to promote your collection.

My muses are Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jacquie Kennedy Onassis. These three women stand out in history because of their femininity, sophistication and grace, and their style transcends through generations and time.

Would you ever consider putting your brand name  or would you ever design a collection for any of the high street brand?
Veronica Moncho Lobo AW 11

Yes, why not? Many designers have collaborated with H&M and I think is a great way to approach a younger crowd. I don’t think I would do it as a permanent line, or at least I do not have any plans for the near future, but the idea of doing a small collection for a high street brand appeals to me.

Award ceremonies like the Oscars is a huge deal, so if you had to choose one female celebrity actress, who will it be and why?

I would choose Kate Winslet. Kate has shown to the world her amazing talent in the film industry. She has blossomed with the years; she is a mother of three children and supports great causes. I admire her as a woman, and I stand by her side in the campaign “No to Botox”. I believe in aging naturally, and most importantly I believe in inner beauty.

What do we have to look out for in your next 2012 collection?

For the next 2012 collection you can expect many shift dresses. The inspiration comes from the 60’s, so you will find geometric shapes, color blocking, beautiful bold colors and a geometric and colorful print that recalls that era. The pieces are very easy to wear it during the day andthrough the evening if you happen to have a cocktail or dinner.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years I see myself growing gradually as a brand, expanding the breadth of the collections, and with a couple of flagship stores around the world.

SOCIAL MONSTROSITIES - SUPERDOLL

These Are Not your Average Dolls For Ones Children.. Super Dolls!

'Social Monstrosities' was the theme of the night event organised by Forward PR. It was definitely a social night, with the Haute Couture collectable dolls on display. The goddesses in their statuesque poses bared it all for us to see.

Every individual doll had a story to tell. And the more I looked and scrutinized the more my empathy grew. From their facial expressions down to the Haute Couture pieces down to their poses, they were objects of desire.
The Sybarites, the term appropriately used for the dolls, are 17 inches tall, all resin, ball-jointed fashion dolls, bearing 19 points of articulation.
Talking to Charles H Fegen and Desmond Lingard, the creators, about the inspiration behind the Sybarites dolls, they attributed it to the modern-day controversy of human cloning, and the reason the dolls had the same features is because they had been cloned from the same genes.

The Sybarites have had a very strong underground collecting cult since they incepted in 2005. The dolls sell at an astounding rate which makes them really collectible.
We all know that the world of Haute Couture is a very private one - so is the world of Chalk White. Every individual doll, I was told, takes a maximum of 200 hours to create.

Bear in mind that in 2006, 30 devotees were picked to attend the first ever official exhibition of these white-complexioned goddesses known as 'Chalk White' - and since then, they have been exhibited in Tokyo, Paris, Moscow and London.
This is one exhibition I couldn't have enough of. The Super Dolls stole the night. They were the centre of attention as each invited guest lingered over their elegant beauty and stance.
I congratulate you, Desmond Lingard and Charles H. Fegan, on your exquisite work.
Pleasure!

Jasper Gardiva Spring/Summer 2012

Jasper Garvida, speaks Art in His S/S 2012 Collection. Fashion Is Art.
Jasper Gardiva S/S12

Jasper Garvida, designer of luxury women's wear, presents 'Autour d'un point', the S/S 2012 collection.
It's a collection of contrasts: the morning sun and the twilight shade, the city and the vale, the darkest tones and the lightest colours.
Jasper's main inspiration for this collection is the individual vision of Diana Vreeland, legendary fashion editor of ''Harper's Bazaar' and 'Vogue', who could produce such 'bon mots' as "Pink is the navy blue of India".
'Autour d'un point' floats around the female body, its point and purpose, with circular shapes and strong silhouettes. The name of the collection is taken from a painting by Frantisek Kupka, a strong stylist, with an individual vision.
To repeat, the female body is the centre of the collection, Metallic tones - silver, gold - are used as highlights, alongside more restrained blacks and whites.
There are bold geometric shapes, with touches of animal and feather. An innovative technique, using an illusion of 3-D printing, softens some of the hard edges; folded sequins give the illusion of studding without the weight.
The original painting, 'Autour d'un point', can be seen in the Peggy Guggenheim museum in Venice.
Ensure your are wearing a piece from the collection when you pay your visit.
Regards,
Charles.

Academy Of Freelance Makeup - AOFM

The Academy Of Freelance Make up (AOFM)Is Growing And Making A Strong Impact.
www.aofmpro.com

I
have been wanting to write about AOFM for quite a while now since was invited to their Studio which stands on three magnificent floors on Dean street in the West End a while back.
I was given a tour on each floor and I was amazed by the place in terms of the number of products and equipments they had. Just about every make up colour you could think of. I can not say I wasn't flabbergasted.

I know lots of you in the fashion world or industry very well know AOFM. And for those of my readers who do not know, allow me to share my love and admiration for AOFM with you.

As you can see from the header AOFM stands for Academy Of Freelance Makeup. And AOFM  has worked on some of the leading magazines we have the moment - Vogue, Tattler, Haper's Bazaar etc

The AOFM harbors some of the world best and qualified artist who in their years of work in the fashion industry have achieved tremendously and made it work in any aspect be it high fashion, edgy, couture you name it - they have done it all.

The above experts talked about form the AMOF pro and now what they do is impact their knowledge, experience and know how onto the new talent/academy students that are coming up.

The AOFM pro is a result made up of these team of world's make up artist. AOfM has studios in London,I stated earlier Paris, New york and Milan.

How can one talk about London Fashion Week and not make mention Of AOFM?  The AOFM pro plays a vital role during fashion week around the world and it has been know for them to over 30 runway shows during Fashion Week. That's certainly some work of art...

This season they are the official backstage for New york Couture fashion Week, Runway Shows at New York Fashion. And like stated earlier they are a playing a pivotal role in London Fashion Week this season as well.

Having had a chat with its founders,Jana Ririnui and Jason Mallet I gathered that, they really believed in helping other professional makeup artist in using the best ever artisan tools to achieve a fine and demure result in their work.

This is why the Academy (AOFM pro)team came up designed their own AOFM pro branded 24 piece professional brush kit.

In addition to that they have published two top notch books and the latest one that was launched entitled, Make Up Is Art. This is a must read I have to insist. Well, it goes without saying how makeup can transform once appearance. It also touches on basic skincare and other issues.

April 14th 2011 was an important date for me as I was invited to be part in jewellery history with the presentation of ‘The World’s First Diamond Ring’; an in-depth animation that charts the creation of a ring composed entirely of a finished diamond with the band carved directly into the stone.
The ring entirely made from one, single faceted diamond is expected to make around £43 million when sold. Weighing 150 carats, Shawish have not only created a world's first, but also a diamond ring which epitomises artistic talent and technical skill.
London was selected as the city to present this exclusive invitation-only event at one of the capital’s top, award-winning venues, Il Bottaccio, 9 Grosvenor Place.
The event  was  attended by a selected audience of 350 media, buyers, insiders from the fashion, art, music and film worlds, and celebrity VIPs.
The Launch commenced at 7:00pm with a champagne reception and live music, Shawish’s most current jewellery collection was on display and modeled throughout the evening.
