Couture in the 21 Century book launch in Harrods.

Friday, 15th October 2010

It's not the dress. It's not fashion. It's the PHILOSOPHY of what you are wearing.

When i allow my eyes to drape their gaze down the shimmering folds of Gilees Mendel evening gown or drift a glance at  a Roland Mouret bias cut, i know that there is a direct connection between Plato's 'phaedra and the runway dreams of today.

Let's start from the basics. Shall we???

Fabrics are as old as human civilisation. Increasing refinement has created many crazy styles, but designers are always reaching out for perfection.

Couture is the means by which they might one day, mount the summit, swim that sea, fly that sky.

That is Couture.

The Book launch (Couture in the 21st Century) was written by Deborah Bee. The fabulous launch was held in Harrods and it was so amazing to see these designers who mentioned in the book.

As usual I a very good entertaining night at Harrods. It was a night worth remembering.

I have to say the book is a must read.

No brands, just the look.

I call this look the flamingo look.  Its fun and eccentric.

I had to create look for a  magazine and the theme for it was subtle eccentricity. The kind that doesn't scream wild but still make a statement.  What came into my mind as to use vintage pieces and one of the  best places was to head down to Portobello Market where i have got some very good shops with fantastic vintage clothes for both men and women

The above look is a 60s single fitted breast tweed jacket which for sure is a must have for every man. This as you can see has been teamed up with a broach to give it the eccentric look. For me this works really well. If you are not a broach kind of man then you can opt for the silk handkerchief. Tweed was a major theme for most of the designers this season

One has to say as well that to make the above statement look,  you have to be confident in yourself  and wear the look. Like i say to most of my clients you can wear the best look or pieces ever but if you are not confident in yourself then its never going to transcend in the way you look.

What i call visible confidence is about your posture when you are gliding down the street, how you stand as well as how up-right you sit.
This is one of my best look, its strong, fiery and fierce. The biker jacket is 60s and very retro.
Remember it is not always about the brand you wear. It should always be about the clothes and how well you wear it.

Top and Super Model Naomi Campbell

Here is my own article about Naomi Campbell the super model of all times and about how do appreciate her and her work and talent. She is my super model and will always be. She has fashion and has 120% style. She is an icon.

Naomi Campbell the super and top model like there is no other was born in 22 May 1970 and was
discovered while on a shopping trip in Covent Garden in London. How cool is that. Talk about standing out in the crowd. She certainly did.

She started her career in 1980 and from there appeared on catwalks of Milan and Paris as well as on the covers of internationally renowned fashion magazines.

She is known for perfumes associated with her name. She has also embarked on lots of charities for a very good course.

Campbell's enormously successful modeling career in some respect unprecedented  for a black model made her one of the most recognizable and in demand models for her generation. And guess what!??! She is still in high demand and still working the runway. She has by far the best walk in the fashion industry.

Oh yes , Miss Campbell was part of the big 6 alongside Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss.

Campbell has appeared on more than 100 magazines covers and has enjoyed a runway career longevity matched by very few.

On the reality television American top model, Tyra Banks once a rival but now a god friend described her body as one the best in the business.

Yes of course Naomi Campbell is one of natures most subtly sex creation.
I congratulate you on your career so far. 40 years of modeling and still going strong.

Cashmere scarves with love from Nepal.

A brand new range of luxurious scarves made from ONLY the finest cashmere, printed and woven using the methods dated back hundred of years in Napel was launched on the 21st of September 2010 under label called Wholly Goat.

I was there at the launch and i have to say these scarves have the best and finest texture. They come in hundred percent pure cashmere. They had fifty percent cashmere and fifty percent silk scarves as well. This is what i call a very good and rich combination. Nothing gets better than that.

Featuring a total of 21 scarves, the new collection draws on themes of travel, experience and discovery. It is also has a bohemian feel to it, which gives it an exotic traditional look.

The colours and design of the scarves comes in rich paisleys, palette of vibrant pink, pale purples and cool blues.

Well for the men out there do not let the above colours scare you because there also masculine colours as i call it for you. And these are the rich blended persian red, camellia rose tones, Nile blue and pale birch.

As a fashion stylist, i would certainly recommend Wholly Goat scarves. They are different, they feel good and comfortable. They also add elegance to your look.

Scarves have always been an on going trend and Wholly Goat scarf collection is a must have. And not forgetting that it is an investment piece.
