ALICE BY TEMPERLEY S/S 2011

DESIGNER: Temperley London and Alice by Temperley
The inspiration behind the collection was that of Medieval romance and a new take on Queen Guinevere

TOP LOOKS
Curve-hugging white cocktail dress with lattice-like print and a gray gown with dramatic ruffles and cinched waist worn with a harness, both for Temperley; pink pleated pants and white puff-shoulder blouse with blue embroidery for Alice

ACCESSORIES: Thick and strappy brown and black pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood for Temperley London, large-brim hats in black and white by Victoria Grant, leather and metal harnesses (Temperley); little brown lace-up oxfords, studded belts with attached coin purses (Alice)

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Showing both her high-end namesake line, Temperley London, and her newish diffusion line, Alice by Temperley, Brit designer Alice Temperley called on larger-than-life European characters -- Queen Guinevere and Marie Antoinette -- and gave their wardrobes a modern twist.

The more worked and luxurious Temperley line featured gothic-tinged dresses and separates in tough leather, soft ruffles, and wildcat prints, all in dramatic silhouettes and paired with metal and leather harnesses. A hooded metallic dress reminiscent of chain mail took the King Arthur theme to its most literal.

More light and airy was the younger and more accessible Alice line, which was spun from Antoinette's taste for decadence and romance. Girly, cool-girl pieces included slouchy trousers, skirts, and overalls in white and pale pink, billowing hand-embroidered blouses and maxi-dresses, and classic toile du Jouy prints slapped on playsuits. Many of the looks were finished with adorable studded hip belts with attached coin purses that we want very badly.

Overall, both of Temperley's collections were extremely original and completely covetable.
Alice by Temperley sales start Noon on Monday,17th of January 2011. Register with cocosa.com now using the invite code 'shopluxury'.
Kick the New Year in Style with the eclectic  British design Alice by Temperley.

Jasper Garvida's SS11 Collection offers a lavender infused that captures  the visual taste buds with a vast variety of textures and embellishments. The collection are teamed with formal cuts of shirt designs, blazers and jackets. The outlook of every piece suggests pleasure and debauchery. And not forgetting how the piece flatters the feminine figure. The pieces takes you on a journey, owning the look and unexpected segments possessing a different surface, pattern or ornamentation. There is a child like innocence to this party dress collection which reminds me of’ playing grown ups’. Each garment blossoms as strict tailoring is transformed into glamorous and theatrical detailing that reflects an oriental influence.

HORACE

Horace, founded by Adam Entwisle and Emma Hales, made their London Fashion Week debut last season despite running the brand successfully for seven years. Focusing on ‘desert survivors’ the s/s collection, which features both menswear and womenswear, looks a little stifling at first glance – too many black layers and boots. It’s only after you envisage the nomadic tribes of the desert, swathed in layer upon layer against the harsh climate that you can appreciate the design duo have hit upon something unique for a s/s collection.

The tribal influence means the silhouette is tunic-like with draped scarves and voluminous hoods but a futuristic element makes the designs modern

With design houses in both Bali and London, Horace has managed to blend handcrafted elements from the Far East with the grungy edge of our capital to great effect.

Horace will  be showing their Autumn/ Winter 2011 collection at London Fashion Week and they are the one watch. It is going to be a great show and I really look forward to it.

KIRK ORIGINALS

URBAN GEEK

It was the moving temple designs that caught me first. Turning this way and that, I saw effects in the mirror that distracted me from my astigmatism and desire for sushi.

These new frames from Kirk (Brighton, Conduit Street, et al) are quite remarkable. They frame the face, of course; but more importantly, they frame the mind

Perhaps my favourite is the Saturn collection; but how difficult it is to choose from such a wonderful range. The sunglasses are probably the only thing to be seen in on la Croisette this May, and the 'Heroes' range possibly the perfect choice to collect your million-pound bonus in from your investment-bank employer. 'Kinetic' is maybe classic geek chic, and 'Sculpture' the colour choice.

All I can say is: visit one of their New Flag Store on 6 Conduit Street, W1S 2XE and take your time until you find the right look for you, and then go for it.

This is 2011. Let's make it a good(-looking) year.

Now check out the KIRK ORIGINALS new range. I adore all the collection. www.kirkorginals.com
